Green Stocks Dec 9- Relief Rally In Small Caps, Mid- Caps Lifts Green Stocks

After the constant hammering of the past few sessions, a relief rally of sorts finally made an appearance for mid and small cap stocks today, lifting many, including most in our green pack up. However, it is obviously too early to jump to any conclusions at this stage, as most other market segments remained under pressure today. 
The big challenge, of course, is that for many stocks that have shed almost 20% in just the past 10 sessions, the climb back to their old levels remains a larger struggle from a lower base. Will investors join them on the journey back, if it starts? Don't be too sure as this market has clearly hurt many investors enough for them to seek an exit at the next opportunity. 

While we had alluded to the risks of a market where IPOs were flooding the pipeline of new issues, as always, the real impact has followed with a lag. And therein lies the biggest challenge for a small investor, as timing the market doesn't really work, or at least doesn't work on a day-to-day basis. This slump has been instructive for many, to say the least, as they have seen stocks bumped up by a major order win or similar positive announcement surrender all the gains and much more within days of moving up. 

The pressure from FII selling, coupled with the IPO rush, has certainly sapped appetite for stocks for now, and it remains to be seen how long firms can hold off on their fundraising in this environment.
