With Waaree RTL delivering a strong set of numbers, albeit with clear margin pressure ramping up, green stocks had a mixed day on an otherwise tough day at the markets. Waaree RTL also ended up giving up some gains it had made this week. Parent Waaree Energies slipped, giving up some of the gains in July, even as all eyes shift to the expected results from Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy now. Even KPI Green could not sustain the recent momentum, ending lower than yesterday's closing after some time.
While these EPC firms set the tone for tomorrow, among developers, only Adani Green held its own today, powered by an optimistic Quarterly update earlier this week. NTPC Green also stayed neutral, managing to ward off selling pressure as supporting news on more operational freedom for the firm kept investors hopeful.
Premier Energies, the other top manufacturer in our list, managed to stay in the green, despite the volatility around the stock today. But this one remains a stock to watch for its results, where it may surprise yet.
The broader picture for the green pack reflects the market in general, where investors remain cautious of the impact of a US-India trade deal, in whatever form it may be announced. With multiple sticking points to be resolved, a mini-deal that wards off the threat of further tariffs for now would be seen as a welcome relief, and likely lead to a relief rally across the market as well. However, we believe one remains to be mindful of other key challenges that are yet to be resolved, be it the issue of export controls from China, or India's own pipeline of tendered projects that are yet to find final buyers for the energy they will make. Progress on both issues remains too slow for comfort, and might just start showing up in actual industry performance by the end of Q2.
