GAP Group announces entry into Solar manufacturing with 2 GW cell line by 2026

The Ahmedabad based GAP group, a group with a strong presence in the real estate sector until now, has announced a plan to venture into solar manufacturing. The firm has marked out its diversification with a focus on solar cell manufacturing first, rather than modules and cels, as most firms have done. With a 2 GW TOPCon cell line expected to be up as early as next year, the focus for the firm is clearly on serving the existing solar cell shortage in the market, before entering into module manufacturing and sales itself. The firm has set a target of 5 GW production of TOPCon solar cells by 2027-28.  In the long term, the GAP group expects to enter the EPC market as well including manufactire of mounting structures as well.

Speaking to SaurEnergy, Gopal Goswami, Chairman GAP group, said that " GAP Group, with its extensive investments in Dholera, sees the investment into solar cells as a natural extension of its efforts to support the multiple smart projects coming up in Dholera. Despote relatively lower subsidies in Gujarat today, Goswami was confident that faster execution would make up for any subsidy gap in Gujarat now."

Goswami is confident of a positive response from the market for their output, based on the experience of their Chinese partner in the cell manufacturing  field and the quality they will deliver to Indian customers. He remains optimistic that electricity demand will move up sharply in the coming decade as efforts to drive faster industrialisation bear fruit, allowing a mush faster depliyment and absorption of renewable energy into the grid as compared to the past.
