Websol Energy System Limited has commenced commercial production at its newly added 600 MW solar cell manufacturing line at Falta, West Bengal. The expansion marks the second phase of the company’s strategic growth roadmap, first announced on September 1, 2025.
With this addition, Websol has effectively doubled its solar cell manufacturing capacity to 1.2 GW, alongside a 550 MW solar module line at the same facility.
The new line utilises advanced Mono PERC technology, reinforcing Websol’s position as a manufacturer of high-efficiency solar equipment in India. This development comes at a time when the demand for indigenous solar cells and modules is rising due to favourable government policies supporting domestic production.
Investment and Commissioning
The additional capacity has been funded entirely through internal accruals, highlighting the company’s strong cash flow profile and conservative capital structure.
As part of the commissioning process, Websol temporarily shut down its existing solar cell and module lines for approximately eight days. This led to a one-time revenue impact during the second quarter of FY2026, but operations have since returned to full scale with the successful ramp-up of the new line.
Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System Limited, said, “The commissioning of our additional 600 MW solar cell line marks a major step in Websol’s growth journey. It reinforces our strategy of building a high-efficiency, horizontally integrated cell-to-module value chain, fully aligned with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. With this development, Websol is further strengthening its market position and advancing its multi-gigawatt expansion roadmap to contribute to India’s clean energy transition.”
Strengthening Integrated Operations
Websol is a vertically integrated manufacturers of solar cells and modules. The company supplies solar cells primarily targeting domestic module assemblers seeking compliance with the Domestic Content Requirement norms. Its modules are marketed both within India and overseas. It is also one of the earliest cell manufacturers in the country.
The Falta manufacturing hub, spread across seven acres inside the Special Economic Zone in West Bengal, now houses 1.2 GW of solar cell capacity along with 550 MW of module capacity. Websol Energy Systems’ Board of Directors has recently approved a INR 3,000 crore phased expansion plan to add 4 GW of solar cells and 4 GW of solar modules capacity.
Websol Energy said the expansion will be executed in two phases. The Phase III part will add 2 GW solar cell line and 2 GW solar module line by June 2027. The Phase IV will lead to further addition of 2 GW solar cell line and 2 GW solar module line by June 2028.
