VP Naidu Inaugurates Amp Energy’s 2.4MW Solar Plant in Puducherry

Amp Energy India has commissioned a 2.4 MW solar power plant at Pondicherry University in the Union Territory of Puducherry.

The plant was inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on 13th September, 2021, in the presence of the Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Lt Governor of Puducherry & Chief Rector of Pondicherry University; N Rangasamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry; and Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University.

The plant is instrumental is supplying solar energy to meet about 40% requirement of the university’s energy needs.

By adopting solar power, Pondicherry University will benefit from reduced energy costs and will contribute to reducing emissions of approx. 2,900 tons of CO2 every year.

This project has been developed under the 97.5MW rooftop scheme by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Pondicherry University and Amp Energy India have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under this scheme for the procurement of solar power for 25 years.

This project is one of the many solar projects developed by Amp Energy India for educational institutions in India. Amp India has commissioned solar projects for School of Planning and Architecture, National Law University, Bhopal and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior among others.
