The batteries are assembled in India, and the company provides on-site installation, commissioning and technical support for installers and end users.

Solar Plus Storage Driving Demand

Volta Energy said the strongest demand for its battery systems currently comes from solar-integrated applications, where storage enables users to utilize solar power beyond daylight hours.

“As solar generation is limited to daytime, batteries allow users to store power and use it in the evening. Solar combined with battery storage provides both green and cost-effective power,” the executive noted.

The company said its systems support both AC-coupled and DC-coupled hybrid configurations, allowing integration with existing solar installations as well as new solar projects.

Expanding Into Utility-Scale Storage

In addition to distributed storage solutions, Volta Energy is also working on large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company is currently manufacturing 1 MW / 2 MWh storage systems, which can be deployed in larger projects ranging from 10 MW to 20 MW installations, Garg added.

Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce 5 MWh containerized storage systems, which can be scaled for projects as large as 100 MW / 200 MWh.

Push for Domestic Manufacturing

Volta Energy, Garg said is also working toward greater localization of battery components as part of its long-term strategy. According to the company, around 40–50 percent of the system components are currently indigenized, and it plans to increase local manufacturing through backward integration and technology development, particularly in areas such as battery management systems (BMS) and power electronics.

Regulatory Alignment Key for BESS Growth

While the battery storage market in India is expanding rapidly, the company noted that regulatory clarity and standardization across states will be important for accelerating deployment.Garg said the BESS sector is evolving quickly, similar to the early growth phase of the solar industry, but differing regulatory frameworks across states can create implementation challenges.

“India’s battery storage market is growing fast, and government initiatives are encouraging. However, harmonized regulations across states will help ensure smoother adoption of BESS solutions,” Garg said.
