Vikram Solar Commissions 5GW Vallam Module Plant, Lifts Total Capacity To 9.5 GW Photograph: (Archive)
Vikram Solar has announced today that it has commissioned a 5-GW solar module manufacturing facility at Vallam in Tamil Nadu, taking its total installed manufacturing capacity to 9.5 GW.
The company said the new plant is among India’s most automated module manufacturing facilities, integrating robotics, advanced material-handling systems, in-line quality checks and fully automated packaging to improve precision, throughput and reliability.
The 27,000 sq. m facility is based on TOPCon technology and is designed for future upgrades to HJT. It can produce modules across M10, G12 and G12R formats. Vikram solar earlier this year also announced plans to enter battery manufacturing besides cell making, with a 1 GWh solid state battery making plan.
Use Of Automated Systems
Vikram Solar said the automation is expected to improve product consistency, reduce failure rates and enhance module performance and long-term energy yield. It added that customers would benefit from shorter lead times and more predictable deliveries, with modules meeting Tier-1 and international quality standards.
The Vallam plant expands the company’s footprint in Tamil Nadu, where it already operates a facility in Oragadam and recently began work on another site in Gangaikondan.
“Commissioning this 5 GW facility within the year was a bold commitment, and delivering on it signals our readiness for the scale, speed and innovation the next decade demands,” said Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary.
Aimed For the Utility & C&I Market
Modules produced at the plant will serve utility-scale, commercial and industrial, and distributed generation projects across India. Vikram Solar said it aims to achieve 40%–50% gender diversity in the facility’s workforce.
Vikram Solar, headquartered in Kolkata, operates in 39 countries and features in BloombergNEF’s Tier-1 list and PVEL’s 2025 PV Module Reliability Scorecard.
