UP: Alpex Solar Upgrades Cell Plant to 2.2 GW, Shifts to TOPCon Tech

New Delhi-based Alpex Solar has decided to shift directly from its earlier proposed phased MonoPERC technology plan to the advanced G12R TOPCon solar cell technology. Its Board of Directors upgraded its solar cell manufacturing plans to establish a 2.2 GW capacity at its existing manufacturing facility in Kosi Kotwan, Uttar Pradesh. The shift is not surprising, considering the speed at which the sun is setting on MonoPerc technology worldwide, especially in China, where it is well on its way to being phased out soon.

The company said the project will be implemented in two phases. Under Phase I, the company would develop a 1.4 GW G12R TOPCon solar cell capacity, which is targeted for trial production in the first quarter of FY 2026-27. Whereas, under Phase II, the company plans to develop the remaining 800 MW, which is expected to be completed within six months thereafter.
