The new system increases single-container capacity to 6.25 megawatt-hours (MWh) by using Trina Storage’s in-house 587 ampere-hour battery cells. The company said design changes have lifted module energy density by 12.3% from the previous generation, while a more compact layout improves site-level energy density by nearly 25%, helping lower the levelised cost of storage.

Enhanced Safety Features

Safety features have also been upgraded, with multi-layer protection across the cell, pack and container levels. Elementa 3 includes early-warning detection systems, high-sensitivity monitoring and a fire-resistant enclosure designed to provide up to two hours of full-cabin protection, supported by gas-based fire suppression. Trina Storage said the Elementa platform has recorded no safety incidents across 12 gigawatt-hours of deployed and operating capacity globally.

Elementa 3 is designed to operate in harsh environments, including high temperatures, humidity, salt mist, dust and seismic conditions. The system supports multiple configurations and applications, including renewable energy firming, energy shifting, grid support and stability services, allowing project owners to tap additional revenue streams.

Efficiency & Integration

The product was awarded a 2025 French Design Award, announced on Nov. 26, recognising its combination of technical performance and industrial design.

“Elementa 3 reflects our focus on delivering safer, more efficient and highly integrated energy storage solutions as projects scale up and application needs diversify,” said Yang Bao, president of Trinasolar’s energy storage division.

The system forms part of Trina Storage’s integrated cell-to-AC offering, covering battery cell development and manufacturing, system engineering, power conversion integration and full AC delivery, aimed at reducing project risk and total cost of ownership.
