TotalEnergies Renewables, the green energy arm of TotalEnergies, has announced that it acquired the 59MW Dehesa Nueva del Rey solar park in Spain from developer Synergia. This ready-to-build project adds to the 3GW portfolio of solar projects TotalEnergies already has with environmental permits in Madrid, Murcia, Andalusia, Aragon, and Castilla La Mancha, said the press release.

Once the plant starts operating, more than 95,000 PV panels will generate enough electricity to fulfill the annual consumption of more than 33,000 homes, claimed the company TotalEnergies. Further, it is estimated these facilities will generate enough renewable electricity, once in operation, to cover the estimated average annual consumption of a region such as the Community of Madrid.

On the acquirement of the project, TotalEnergies Renewables Spain managing director Yago Mancebo Ferreiro said, “TotalEnergies has made a firm commitment to contribute to Spain’s energy transition with the promotion of renewable energies. We continue to make progress in achieving our objectives with the incorporation of projects such as Dehesa Nueva del Rey, with all the necessary permits to start construction, and expanding our portfolio of renewable energy projects.”

Last month, TotalEnergies signed an agreement to acquire from its three founders the entire share capital of Kyon Energy, one of the developers of battery storage systems in Germany as part of its development as an integrated power player in the country. The consideration consists of a €90 million upfront payment, plus some earn-out payments linked to the achievement of development targets. The company will develop, build, and operate those projects, mainly located in the North of Germany, as part of its integrated power strategy.

In other news, Norwegian state-owned power company Statkraft AS has also secured consent in Spain for the ecological transition to set up a 228-MWp solar farm in the region of Murcia, southeastern Spain.
