Tata.ev Partners with Hopcharge to Launch Doorstep EV Charging in NCR

Tata Motors’ electric vehicle arm, Tata.ev, has partnered with mobile charging solutions provider Hopcharge to roll out on-demand charging vans across the National Capital Region (NCR), aiming to make EV charging more accessible for urban customers.

The initiative introduces doorstep charging services, allowing electric vehicle owners to summon a charging van to their location instead of travelling to a public EV charging station or relying on a fixed home charger.

Doorstep Charging Model for Urban EV Owners

Under the new service, customers can book a mobile charging unit through a dedicated platform. Once scheduled, the charging van travels to the customer’s location and charges the vehicle on-site.

The model is particularly relevant for residents of multi-storey apartment complexes, rented homes or buildings where installing a personal charging point is either restricted or not feasible.

In densely populated cities across the NCR — including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad — limited parking access and building-level constraints have often made home charging difficult.

By bringing the charger to the vehicle, the partnership seeks to remove one of the key practical barriers to EV ownership in urban India.

As part of the collaboration, customers purchasing a Tata.ev vehicle from an authorised dealership will be eligible for complimentary doorstep charging services under a promotional scheme.

However, neither company has disclosed the financial terms of the partnership, the number of charging vans to be deployed, nor whether the service will expand beyond the NCR. No timeline for potential geographic expansion has been announced.

Addressing Infrastructure Gaps

Charging infrastructure remains a challenge to wider EV adoption in India, especially in high-density urban areas. While public charging networks have expanded in recent years, consistent access to overnight home charging - often considered the most convenient and cost-effective option - remains out of reach for many apartment residents.

Mobile EV charging services are emerging as an alternative approach. Instead of requiring drivers to locate a charging station, the charging unit travels to the vehicle. The concept has been tested in other international markets and is now being deployed selectively in India, where apartment-heavy housing patterns present unique infrastructure constraints.

Growing Competition in India’s EV Market

Tata.ev operates under Tata Motors and is among the leading players in India’s electric passenger vehicle segment. The partnership with Hopcharge signals a broader push by automakers to integrate charging solutions alongside vehicle sales, offering bundled services to cater to the growing Indian EV Market.

Hopcharge, which runs mobile EV charging units, has already established operations in parts of the NCR. The collaboration with Tata.ev could further scale its visibility and service footprint in the region.
