TATA Power to Deploy Superfast EV Chargers at Select MG Motor India Dealerships

With an aim to contribute towards electric vehicle (EV) revolution in the country, utility giant Tata Power and MG Motor India, which offers luxury SUV cars in India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday.

Tata Power

As per the MoU signed, Tata Power will deploy 50KW DC superfast chargers at select MG Motor India dealership locations and offer end-to-end EV charging solutions to its dealerships spread across the country.

Commenting on the deal, Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power Company Ltd, said that, “we are delighted to associate with MG Motor India as an end-to-end EV charging partner as also working on the second life of battery usage in future.”

Sinha further added “as India’s leading integrated player in the EV charging space, we aim to provide customers with a seamless charging experience. We are confident that this partnership with MG Motor will further boost our country’s ability to adapt to the range of electric vehicles that MG Motor has to offer.”

With this partnership, MG Motor aims to lay a specific focus on the key target cities they will be foraying into as a part of their future EV expansion plans.

The company further assured its customers that these chargers will be accessible by both MG ZS EV customers as well as other EV owners whose automobiles are compatible with the CCS/CHAdeMO charging standards.

“Further strengthening our commitment to India, we aim to provide our customers with a robust charging ecosystem to promote the adoption of cleaner and greener mobility solutions. With a partner like Tata Power, a renowned major in the field of power & renewable energy, we are confident that we will create a distinct synergy together,” believes Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India.

However, MG Motor India already has an aggregate of 10 Superfast 50 kW charging stations across its dealerships in 5 cities i.e. New Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Now, the company is expanding its EV charging network to more cities.

On the other hand, Tata Power has also established an EV charging ecosystem with more than 180 charging points in nineteen different cities under EZ Charge brand along with a digital platform to facilitate easy & smooth customer experience.

Meanwhile, the two companies are expecting that this partnership will involve core values and operating model in line with their existing customer-centric approach including exploring the possibility of 2nd life management of EV batteries.

Recently, the Tata Group company has disclosed its substantial investment plan of expanding its network of smart EV charging points to around 700 from current 170 by FY21under the Brand name of Tata Power EZ Charge.
