Tata Power Solar Systems Bags Rs. 188 Crore EPC Contract From NHPC

NHPC, an Indian government hydropower board under the ownership of Ministry of Power, announced yesterday its placement of an order amounting to Rs 188.19 crore with Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, a Mumbai-headquartered solar energy services provider, to set up a 40 MW solar power project at Ganjam, in Odisha.

Tata Power Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, last month announced a significant expansion of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, taking the total production capacity of cells and modules to 1,100 MW (1.1 GW). The parent company recently announced its financial results for Q4 FY21, reporting a marginal rise of one per cent in consolidated net profit at Rs 481.21 crore.

NHPC has awarded an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, which includes the installation of the solar power plant on government land acquired by NHPC for this purpose through the state agency Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO). The contract also mandates setting up of associated 220 KV transmission line for connectivity at 220 KV OPTCL Transmission System through Lilo Provision and comprehensive O&M (operation and maintenance) for a decade.

Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) will procure the power generated by the project for the latter’s entire life of 25 years. The project, which is scheduled to be commissioned within a period of 12 months, has been sanctioned by MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) under the Solar Park Scheme.

In March this year, NHPC issued a tender for an EPC contract for the development of a 100 MW solar PV grid-connected power plant along with associated power evacuation equipment across multiple villages in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. In January, the company issued a tender for awarding another EPC contract for the development of a 100 MW ISTS-connected ground-mounted solar PV project at the Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) in Koppal District of Karnataka.
