Tata Power Inks Pact with MGL to Expand Footprints in e-mobility, Other Services

This deal is the fourth major partnership of an electric utility company with an energy retailer to further expand its presence in the e-mobility space.

In order to become future ready, utility giant Tata Power has entered into an agreement with one of the country’s leading city gas distribution companies, Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL), to jointly strengthen their footprints in the emerging e-mobility business and other services.

The company said in a statement that, “Tata Power and Mahanagar Gas Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore synergies of operation in integrated customer services, foray into emerging e-mobility business and other value-added services of common interests.”

This deal is the fourth major partnership of an electric utility company with an energy retailer to further expand its presence in the e-mobility space.

As per the deal, the two companies will explore possibilities of co-operation in the fields of common utility revenue cycle management and customer management solutions; IT solutions; data analytics; Geographical Information System (GIS) based solutions SCADA systems; common safeguard activities for underground assets, solar rooftop initiatives and setting up of commercial-scale EV charging/ battery swapping stations, with the allied power management solutions.

Further, the MoU was signed between Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Power and Sanjib Datta, Managing Director, Mahanagar Gas Ltd in Mumbai.

Commenting on the deal, Tata Power, CEO & Managing Director, Praveer Sinha said, “We are happy to announce our partnership with MGL. This is yet another significant move by Tata Power to offer a wide range of services to the Indian energy consumers, particularly in Customer Management Solutions, IT Solutions, Data Analytics, Geographical Information System (GIS) based solutions SCADA systems; Common safeguard activities for underground assets, solar rooftop initiatives and e-mobility space which, we foresee as how India will move its people and goods in future.”

“At a time when MGL is entering the 25th year of its operations of providing environment-friendly CNG & PNG to Mumbai and its surrounding areas, we are exploring business opportunities beyond gas,” said Sanjib Datta, Managing Director, Mahanagar Gas Ltd.

Datta further added that, “This strategic alliance with Tata Power will provide us an opportunity to explore joint synergies and foray into emerging e-mobility business in the Indian mobility space, where we are already a significant player by supplying CNG for various vehicle segments.”
