His appointment will take effect from June 1, 2025. Banga currently heads Tata Power’s Transmission and Distribution vertical, which includes operations in Mumbai, Delhi, Ajmer, and Powerlinks Transmission. Before this role, he served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a public-private partnership between Tata Power and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. “He is a power sector veteran with around three decades of experience in power generation and distribution,” the company said. “Mr. Banga brings with him expertise in operational technologies, project management, utility business process reengineering, and the regulatory environment—key areas for strengthening electrical utilities to meet reliability and AT&C loss reduction targets under the regulatory regime.” The leadership change comes at a time when Tata Power has softened its earlier stance on avoiding fresh thermal investments. However, its focus on renewables remains strong. The company boasts an integrated solar supply chain, leads the rooftop solar segment in India, and maintains a robust EPC order book for the coming quarters.
