TANFAC Operationalizes 5,000 TPA Solar-Grade Acid Plant

Chennai-based TANFAC, a chemical company, has successfully commissioned its 5,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) Solar Grade Dilute Hydrofluoric Acid (DHF) plant. This chemical is used in the manufacturing process of wafers and solar cells.

The commissioning follows the approval of the trial production quality by one of India’s major solar energy producers, confirming that the product meets their stringent quality requirements.

First in India

TANFAC, which manufactures and supplies fluorine chemicals, is one of the first Indian chemical companies to commission a solar-grade DHF plant, a critical raw material for the solar energy industry. The company is currently implementing the second phase of the project, which aims to expand the total solar-grade DHF capacity to 10,000 TPA. This expansion is expected to be commissioned within the next three months.

Comment from Afzal Malkani, Director, TANFAC: “We are excited to announce the successful commissioning of our 5,000 TPA Solar Grade DHF plant after meeting the stringent quality requirements of one of our major solar energy customers.”  He added, “Being the first chemical company in India to achieve this is a significant milestone in TANFAC’s history. This development not only strengthens our position in the solar chemicals sector but also has the potential to significantly enhance both our top-line and bottom-line growth. We are equally enthusiastic about the ongoing second phase of the project, which will double our capacity to 10,000 TPA and further reinforce our commitment to supporting India’s renewable energy ambitions.”

Dilute Hydrofluoric Acid For Cleaning & Texturing Silicon Wafers

According to research, Hydrofluoric acid (HF) is used to remove native silicon dioxide from wafers. Since it acts quickly, one needs to only expose the wafer for a short time (dip). HF is a dangerous chemical and protective gear must be worn when using it, in particular, neoprene or thick nitrile gloves and eye protection must be worn.
