As the generation and usage of renewable energy comes under focus in Tamil Nadu, the state’s cement corporation has sought bids for the installation of 20 MW solar power plant at Alangulam Cement Works in Virudhunagar district. The tender document by the cement corporation also mentioned about the engagement of a consultant for the meticulous preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) concerning the establishment of a 20 MW solar plant at Alangulam Cement Works in Virudhunagar District.

The period of supply for the project is 30 days and has the value of the project stands at Rs 10 lakh, read the tender document. An amount of Rs 10,000 is required as the earnest money deposit (EMD) for the above mentioned project. Furthermore, a pre-bid meeting will take place on February 9 at 3pm for potential bidders to get into the nitty-gritty of the project and seek clarifications, if any. The date for the submission of the bid is 19th December, 2024 with the opening of Part-A slated for the same day at 4:00 PM.

Tamil Nadu has witnessed a renewed approach in the field of renewable energy. Recently, the state government announced to form a new green energy (TNGECL) company by merging renewable energy department from TEDA and Tangedco.

According to media reports, Tamil Nadu has achieved record solar power generation in August last year. The solar power generated peaked at 4,882 MW in the state the last year. Furthermore, the state also recorded the highest consumption of solar power at 36.10 million units last year itself. Tamil Nadu has an installed solar capacity of 6,750.62 MW including the rooftop solar. Among all the southern states, Tamil Nadu has highest solar energy consumption till now.

Moreover, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) is also planning to build solar capacity of 20,000 MW with an investment of Rs 70,000 crore. Tangedco has floated tenders for the first ever district level solar park in the state.
