Pune-based wind solutions provider Suzlon Group has secured a 248.85 MW wind energy order from the ArcelorMittal Group through its renewable energy entity in India. The company said in a press release that the order is part of a 550 MW hybrid project in Gujarat. The project is to be executed in Bachau, Gujarat
Suzlon explained that the wind capacity will be used for captive consumption at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel facilities in India. Suzlon has an installed capacity base of 4.5 GW, which continues to grow.
This marks Suzlon’s fourth major wind order aimed at decarbonising steel production, taking its total contribution to approximately 1,156 MW of green steel capacity in India. Over the past 12 months, Suzlon has partnered with leading steelmakers to accelerate the transition to low-carbon steel manufacturing.
Previously, Suzlon partnered with JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Jindal Renewables, for an additional 302.4 MW wind power project in the Koppal region of Karnataka. The partnership is aimed at accelerating green steel production.
Similarly, in October 2024, Suzlon announced plans to harness wind energy to decarbonise hard-to-abate steel sectors. The Pune-based company secured a 400 MW wind order from JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of Jindal Renewables Power Private Limited, further strengthening its role in supporting the steel industry’s clean energy transition.
