Suzlon Elevates JP Chalasani, Appoints Ajay Kapur as Group CEO

Suzlon has formed a new leadership and organisational architecture in support of its plans to diversify its portfolio across wind, solar, BESS, new and emerging technologies, and diversified business models to offer integrated solutions to its customers.

Pune-based wind energy company Suzlon has elevated serving CEO J P Chalasani to the newly formulated Group Executive Council (GEC) while appointing Ajay Kapur as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

In a press release, Suzlon said that Chalasani, in his new role, will help transform the business from a wind energy solutions provider into a full-stack renewable energy solutions conglomerate. The appointment of Ajay Kapur as Group CEO, who brings over 36 years of experience, will drive the Group’s transformation and scale the organisation for its next phase of growth.

In recognition of the significant opportunities within the emerging renewable energy landscape, Suzlon recently unveiled its business transformation and expansion intent under its Suzlon 2.0 vision. Under this bold vision, Suzlon plans to diversify its portfolio across wind, solar, BESS, new and emerging technologies, and diversified business models to offer integrated solutions to its customers. The company has now formed a new leadership and organisational architecture in support of this vision.

Under this new architecture, the Group Executive Council will operate as a strategic body established to steer the Group’s long-term and medium-term growth agenda. An Executive Management Council, led by Chalasani, has also been formed to drive impactful transformation and the sustainable growth of the Group’s businesses. This transition reflects the Group’s focus on structured succession and long-term value creation, while ensuring continuity in leadership and strategic direction.

Suzlon clarified that under the latest appointment, JP Chalasani, as a member of the GEC, will work closely with the Chairman & Managing Director and the Executive Vice Chairman in shaping and driving key strategic initiatives across the Group.

He will continue to play a pivotal role in mentoring senior leadership through his deep sectoral knowledge and insights, maintaining long-term strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, and incubating and operationalising new business opportunities. Chalasani will continue to be designated as a Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) and will report to the Chairman & Managing Director.

Ajay Kapur, who has been appointed as Group CEO, will drive the Group’s transformation, scale its businesses, and build the organisation for its next phase of growth.

With over 36 years of experience, he brings significant independent leadership experience, including more than a decade as CEO of large, listed entities across infrastructure, construction, power, and heavy metals. Kapur has been instrumental in building companies with strong growth, operational excellence, and financial stability. His last position was Managing Director of Ambuja Cements Limited, an Adani Group company. At Suzlon, Kapur will report to the Chairman & Managing Director, Vinod Tanti.
