The allotment is intended for setting up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing unit and is subject to the payment of a premium and compliance with other terms and conditions specified in the allotment letter. The company added that it has paid the earnest money and is in the process of completing the premium payment as per the stipulated requirements. SPML Infra added, "We have already paid the earnest money and are in the process of completing the payment of the premium as per the stipulated requirements."

SPML Eyes BESS Manufacturing Opportunity

Commenting on the development, Manoj Digga, Director–Commercials and Chief Financial Officer of SPML, said, “I am pleased to share that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation committee has decided to offer us the land for our BESS manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. Once the land is formally allotted, we expect construction to begin in full swing, with phase-wise commissioning of the plant targeted by March 2026 or early in the financial year 2026–27.”

Outlining the company’s long-term vision for the BESS segment, he said, “With the BESS opportunity and the government's commitment to this segment, we expect our power EPC business to grow. Once our BESS facility is fully operational—by March 2026 or early FY26–27—the segment could contribute around 50% to our business going forward.”

Further detailing the upcoming project, he said, “The BESS volume includes multiple components. The battery pack, which we will manufacture, accounts for about 40% of the total BESS cost. The system also includes a container and several other elements relevant to EPC players.”

He added, “We are setting up a plant to manufacture the battery pack, which is a backward integration into BESS manufacturing. Currently, even if we supply the container, we can source battery packs from Chinese, U.S., or Vietnamese suppliers. However, once we have our own battery pack manufacturing unit, we expect an improvement in profit margins, greater visibility, and better control over product quality.”
