Spanish Firm Licenses its Patented ‘Continuous String’ Process

Mondragon Assembly, a leading Spanish company dedicated to delivering solutions and equipment for the PV Industry, has secured a licensing agreement for its patent for “continuous string” process, which has been its intellectual property since 2013.

“The current patent from 2013 provides us with some results not previously seen in the manufacture of strings,” claims the company, adding, “Seeing the interesting results offered by the patent, Mondragon Assembly faced a legal dispute some years ago with a solar machinery manufacturer, which the Chinese court settled in favour of Mondragon Assembly.”

Mondragon Assembly is an international group specializing in the development of automation and assembly solutions. The Group currently has six production plants in Spain, Mexico, France, Germany, China and Brazil, and a subsidiary in India. The company designs and provides turnkey production lines and machinery for photovoltaic systems and batteries. The firm has been providing innovative manufacturing technology for over fifteen years.

At present, the Basque Country machinery manufacturer has already negotiated some agreement with a prominent company in the solar industry for its patented continuous string process. Mondragon Assembly describes the advantages of its original technology in the following manner:

The patented “Continuous String” process is a method of manufacturing a continuous string, which means any adverse effects arising from “first” and “last” cell can be eliminated. During this process, a cut is made between two cells to create individual strings from one infinite string. In so doing, this system increases the machine’s productivity by 10%. Furthermore, this method allows the ribbon/wire to be kept under control at all times, increasing the quality of the alignment and reducing the number of defective strings.

In addition to panel designing, Mondragon Assembly offers a wide range of services for the solar panel manufacturing industry, including raw materials selection, fast-track panel certification, production ramp-up support, personnel training, and transfer of know-how.

In battery production, the company offers complete assembly lines for module and battery pack production and energy storage systems for research and development machines. The firm states that it can develop solutions for the production of cylindrical, prismatic and pouch cells.
