Solis Hybrid Inverters: Parallel Communication Setup & Parameters

As the scale of energy storage systems soars, the limitations of single-inverter setups become apparent. Solis hybrid inverters provide a parallel operation feature that allows multiple units to work together.

As the scale of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) soars, the limitations of single-inverter setups become apparent. To meet higher demand and improve system resilience, global energy solutions firm Solis has already brought hybrid solar inverters, which combine the grid-connected solar system with batteries. Often, not much is spoken in the media about the technicalities of such systems.

We unpack more about the involved technicalities, based on a recent seminar by Solis. Solis hybrid inverters provide a parallel operation feature that allows multiple units to work together. Their latest Seminar 72 covers how to set up parallel communication and configure key parameters. These could be used by many installers to ensure optimal generation, keeping in mind compliance with the safety measures, too.

Key Considerations to Keep in Mind

  • Model Matching: Only use identical inverter models in the parallel system.

  • Firmware Version: Ensure all inverters share the same firmware version.

  • Max Units: Up to 6 inverters can be connected together.

  • Data Logger: Only the master inverter connects to a meter and data logger.

  • Grounding: All inverters must share a common ground.

  • PV/Battery Input: Each inverter has its own solar (PV) and battery inputs.

  • AC Output: All outputs are paralleled as per the wiring diagram.

Communication and Parameter Setting Instructions

1. Test Inverters Individually

Ensure each inverter operates properly on its own. Fix any faults or alarms before connecting them in parallel.

2. Set Up Parallel Communication

Use the RJ45 Parallel A (left) and B (right) ports for CAN-based communication.

Connect the master’s Parallel-A to the first slave’s Parallel-B.

Then link each slave’s Parallel-A to the next slave’s Parallel-B

3. Dip Switch Settings

Set dip switches 1 & 2 to ON for the first and last inverters. Set them to OFF for all middle inverters.

For 2 inverters, both should be ON.
For 3 inverters, the first and last are ON, the middle is OFF.

4. Parallel Parameter Setting on APP

Enter the SolisCloud APP and click into the "Setting" interface, then go to "Parallel Settings".

 5. Parameter Specifications

Once in parallel mode, configure system settings (e.g., working mode) only on the master inverter; they’ll auto-sync to all units.

Assign unique IDs:

  • Master inverter = ID 1

  • Slave inverters = ID 2 to 6

The master also aggregates and displays total energy flow data.
