The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will be establishing a solar power generation project along the Samruddhi Mahamarg that connects Mumbai and Nagpur. According to media reports, several offices of MSRDC will be embedded with solar panels in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Aurangabad.

Further, the reports stated that the special-purpose vehicle of MSRDC, Mahasamruddhi Renewable Energy Ltd (MREL), will use the leftover space along the highway to install solar equipment with the aim of increasing efficiency. In regards to that, the MREL also floated a request for proposal (RFP) to appoint a consultant to conduct a feasibility study, prepare a detailed project report, and manage the bid process.

In addition to that, for the 9 MW solar power project a tender was issued for the appointment of a contractor at two junctions on Samruddhi Mahamarg located at Bhilkheda village in Washim district and Faizalapur/Sabra in Buldhana district, which is currently underway.

The MSRDC also plans to explore different models for solar energy consumption, such as net metering, where solar energy system owners receive credits for electricity they contribute to the grid, according to the report by IndianExpress. The report further read that two bidders have shown interest, and financial and technical evaluations of both are underway. Under this scheme, MRECL has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd for grid interconnections.

In other news, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a joint venture agreement with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO), for the development of Renewable Energy Parks in the state of Maharashtra. The company to be set up under the joint venture will develop GW-scale renewable energy parks and undertake projects of this scale in a phased manner.
