Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has now commissioned more than 25 GW of solar projects under various government schemes, including the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme. The company said in a social media post that these projects were awarded under the Standard Bidding Guidelines (SBG), including solar projects linked with Solar Manufacturing, the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme, and other miscellaneous categories.
The projects have been commissioned through tariff-based competitive bidding and long-term Power Purchase Agreements, contributing to the steady expansion of grid-connected solar capacity in the country. The projects have been commissioned across many states/UTs such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, etc.
Seen as the key flag bearer of the solar push in India post 2012, SECI has certainly played a key role in ensuring solar lands on its feet in India by providing the kind of payment security and processes that were so critical. It has also played a role in the success of states like Madhya Pradesh, besides other states where it has been a key advisor. It's role should and will hopefully evolve now to helping ensure a quicker adoption of energy storage at scale in the next phase of its growth journey.
SECI Crosses 60 GW Milestone in Power Sale Agreements
Last year, in 2025, SECI executed over 60 Gigawatts (GW) of Power Sale Agreements (PSAs) for renewable energy (RE) capacity. It executed PSAs covering a diversified portfolio comprising solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects.
These agreements play a crucial role in ensuring the long-term purchase of renewable power, offering payment security to developers and investors. By reducing financial risk and ensuring stable returns, SECI’s agreements have strengthened investor confidence and enabled greater capital flow into India's low-carbon economy.
