SCCL To Set Up 800 MW Solar Plants On Reservoirs In Telangana

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is planning to set up about 800 MW solar plants on huge reservoirs. The Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL said Saturday that the company would set up about 800 MW solar plants on huge reservoirs with the approval of the State government.

Singareni had already set up 234 MW solar plants across the company’s mining areas, and would soon set up about 800 MW solar plants in reservoirs. Further, officials have been directed to take steps to set up a 300 MW floating solar plant on the Lower Manair Dam and a 500 MW solar plant on the Mallanna Sagar reservoir.

The SCCL Chairman also apprised that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for setting up a 300 MW solar plant on Lower Manair Dam is ready. He also directed the officials to immediately prepare the DPR regarding the establishment of two 250 MW floating solar plants proposed to be set up on the Mallanna Sagar reservoir.

Along with that official directions were also issued regarding establishing an 800 MW power plant at the 1200 MW Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) premises situated in Mancherial district.

Last month, Telangana agriculture minister T Nageswar Rao inaugurated a 10.5 MW solar plant set up by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) at Ramavaram in Kothagudem. Last year, in 2023 Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) issued a tender for the design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 67.5 MW (AC) ground-based solar PV power plant along with 10 years plant O&M at SCCL. Last year, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) achieved around 40 percent of its net-zero targets.
