Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), the kingdom’s Principal Buyer, has announced the list of qualified bidders for the seventh round of solar and wind projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is led and supervised by the Ministry of Energy.
Once completed, the Round Seven projects will collectively add 5,300 MW of renewable energy capacity, advancing Saudi Arabia’s clean energy ambitions as part of its Vision 2030 goals.
Solar Projects
The key solar photovoltaic (PV) independent power producer (IPP) projects under this round include:
Tabarjal II Solar PV Project in Al Jouf region – 1,400 MW
Mawqaq Solar PV Project in Hail region – 600 MW
Tathleeth Solar PV Project in Aseer region – 600 MW
South Al Ula Solar PV Project in Madinah region – 500 MW
Wind Projects
On the wind side, both projects are located in the Madinah region with a combined capacity of 2,200 MW. These include:
Bilghah Wind IPP – 1,300 MW
Shagran Wind IPP – 900 MW
Qualified Developers
SPPC also released a detailed list of qualified developers for both solar and wind projects across two categories - managing members and technical members.
For Wind IPP projects, the list of qualified managing and technical members includes major global and regional players, such as Masdar, Alfanar Company, EDF Power Solutions, Kahrabel FZE (Engie), Marubeni Corporation, Power China, Goldwind Science & Technology, Sembcorp Utilities, TotalEnergies Renewables, DL Energy Company, China Longyuan Power Group, Envision Energy, and WahajPeak Holdings.
Qualified managing members include Saudi Electricity Company, SPIC Shanghai Electric Power Company, Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company, Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco), GD Power Development Company, and Gulf Development Public Company, while technical members comprise Nesma Renewable Energy and Grupo Empresarial Enhol.
For Solar PV IPP projects, the qualified managing and technical members are Masdar, Alfanar, Al Gihaz Holding Company, EDF Power Solutions, Engie, Sembcorp Utilities, Jinko Power (HK), TotalEnergies Renewables, Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company, Kepco, Nesma Renewable Energy, Korea Western Power Company, Marubeni Corporation, SPIC Shanghai Electric Power Company, WahajPeak Holdings, and FAS Energy for Trading Company.
Qualified managing members include Saudi Electricity Company, Grupo Empresarial Enhol, Power China, GD Power Development, Gulf Development Public Company, and Reliance NU Energies Private Limited.
The announcement marks another major step in Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy mix and expand renewable generation capacity to 50 percent by 2030.
