Renewable Power Capital Acquires 57MW Battery Storage Project In UK JSW Energy Company Signs Battery Storage Pact With SECI

United Kingdom-based Renewable Power Capital (RPC) has completed the acquisition of a 57MW ready-to-build battery storage project in the UK. With this deal, RPC adds its first shovel-ready storage project to its UK portfolio.

According to the press release, the construction on the site is due to start imminently. Energisation is expected next summer (2025), after which the project will be connected to the UK’s transmission network.

This deal follows RPC’s two storage development partnerships in the UK, both of which were announced in the past year. These agreements total 4.5GW of capacity – 500MW with Greenfield and 4GW with Elmya Energy. This is the first ready-to-build storage project RPC has acquired in the UK.

Kevin Devlin, CEO at RPC, said, “RPC is carving out its position as a key player in the storage market. This deal brings our UK storage pipeline to more than 4.5GW, and now with an advanced-stage project. We see significant growth potential in the sector and look forward to building on this momentum.”

Earlier this month, Balance Power‘s 40MW battery storage project in Cheshire, England received the planning approval. The project, located in Cheadle, will store renewable energy at times of peak generation and export it back onto the grid when demand is high, balancing intermittency, according to the press release. The storage facility will be operational in 2028, with construction planned to begin as early as 2026.

Last year in December, Renewable Power Capital (RPC) and Elmya Energy entered into a joint venture (JV) to develop 4GW of BESS and co-located solar PV assets in the UK. As part of the deal, Elmya Energy has contributed an existing pipeline of over 2.5GW to the JV. This includes 1.5GW of transmission-connected projects and 200MW of distribution-connected projects at a late stage of development, plus 800MW of earlier-stage projects.
