Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) announced that it will begin solar power generation in the first half of fiscal year 2026-27 (H1 FY27) from its mega renewable energy project in Kutch, Gujarat.
The company revealed the development in its Q2 FY26 results presentation, emphasising that project work across the expansive 550,000-acre site, an area nearly three times the size of Singapore, has made significant progress.
Advancing the World’s Largest New Energy Complex
According to the company’s presentation, engineering and feasibility studies for the Kutch site have been completed, and land development activities are underway.
Reliance said it expects to begin commissioning solar generation units for its captive requirements as part of its green fuels production program in the first half of next fiscal year.
The Kutch project will serve as the foundation of Reliance’s integrated new energy ecosystem, which includes the production of green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel. The complex will also integrate large-scale solar and battery giga-factories, making it one of the most comprehensive renewable infrastructures globally.
Progress on Solar PV and Battery Giga-Factories
The company stated that it is gradually expanding its solar PV giga-factory in Jamnagar. Four PV module lines have already been commissioned, while the first solar cell line is set to be operational shortly.
The plant includes fully automated sections such as cell print line loaders and texturization tools designed to maximize efficiency and automation.
Parallelly, work on the battery energy storage giga-factory is “progressing at a rapid pace.” Significant civil construction and engineering activities have been completed for the 40 GWh manufacturing capacity, with production equipment ready for installation on foundations.
Establishing India’s Integrated Green Energy Value Chain
Reliance outlined its strategy to build an end-to-end integrated green energy business, covering the entire value chain from polysilicon and wafer manufacturing to solar modules, batteries, and hydrogen production.
The company described this as a “Jio moment for the New Energy business”.
The upcoming Kutch facility will not only serve Reliance’s captive energy requirements but is also expected to supply renewable power and storage solutions to third parties in the future.
Chairman Mukesh Ambani, in the presentation, reiterated Reliance’s commitment to building the world’s largest integrated renewable energy complex. The company emphasized that each giga-factory - from solar cell manufacturing to battery storage - is designed for modular expansion, enabling future scale-ups aligned with India’s growing clean energy demand.
