Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 450 MWp (DC) / 300 MW (AC) domestically manufactured (DCR) solar power project for NHPC Ltd at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The project, executed over two and a half years, uses high-efficiency DCR cells and bifacial modules supplied by TP Solar’s Tirunelveli facility. About 775,000 modules were installed across challenging desert terrain, the company said.

The plant supplies power to Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) and is expected to generate around 17,230 million units of electricity over its operating life. TPREL said the project will help offset an estimated 13.8 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions during its lifetime.

Extreme Weather Challenges

TPREL said the project required precision engineering and specialised construction techniques to manage extreme temperatures and difficult logistics at the site. High-performance inverters and precision ramming technology were deployed to ensure efficiency and durability.

The company said the project also contributed to local employment, engaging more than 300 workers and supporting several local vendors.

DCR-Compliant Cells

In addition to the NHPC project, TPREL is supplying DCR-compliant cells and modules for SJVN’s 1 GW project and NLC’s 300 MW project in Rajasthan, both nearing commissioning.

With this commissioning, TPREL’s total renewable utility portfolio has reached 11.6 GW, including 5.8 GW operational (4.7 GW solar and 1.1 GW wind) and 5.8 GW under implementation. The company said over 4.9 GW of third-party projects have been commissioned so far, including 980 MW delivered in the current financial year.

TPREL said the execution further strengthens its position as a preferred EPC partner for large-scale renewable projects and supports India’s goal of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
