Q3FY26: TP Solar Continues to Expand Role in Tata Power With Record Module, Cell Production

TP Solar recorded a strong manufacturing performance from April 2025 to December 2025 (9-month period). That, and the higher margins from the business has been a welcome addition to parent Tata Power's profits in an otherwise lean quarter

Tata Power Solar Limited (TP Solar), a solar manufacturing arm of The Tata Power Company Limited (Tata Power) and a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), manufactured 2.8 GW of DCR solar cells and 2.9 GW of solar modules. Out of 2.9 GW modules, 2.4GW were DCR Modules and balance 0.5 GW were ALMM modules. The ramped up production has become a key part of the growth and profitability at parent Tata Power in recent quarters, something that will be accentuated when the results for Q3 are formally declared.

In a press release, TATA Power said TP Solar recorded a strong manufacturing performance from April 2025 to December 2025 (9-month period). In Q3 FY26, it manufactured 940 MW of cells compared to 196 MW in the corresponding period last year, registering nearly a 5x year-on-year increase. The rise in cell production is notable for the smooth ramp up, conasidering the challenges many other firms have faced so far. TP Solar's existing cell manufacturing helped of course.

During this period, its module production stood at 990 MW compared to 927 MW production completed by the company in the same period last year. This reflects an approximately 7% year-on-year (YoY) growth underscoring TP Solar’s consistent capacity ramp-up and improving operational efficiency.

TATA Power Solar Setup 4.3 GW Solar Cell and Module Facility

TP Solar operates one of India’s largest single-location state of the art, 4.3 GW Solar Cell and Module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Tata Power, through its subsidiary, TPREL, has invested nearly ₹ 4,300 crore in establishing this facility.

The investment represents a significant milestone in advancing indigenization across the solar value chain and reinforces the Tata Power’s strategic focus on achieving self-sufficiency in solar cell and module manufacturing. The facility is also distinguished by a workforce comprising nearly 80% women, reflecting the Company’s strong commitment to inclusive workforce.

Equipped with advanced TOPC on and Mono PERC technologies, the plant produces ALMM-certified modules as also DCR modules using Made in India Cells in this plant.
