Prostram Wins Bihar BESS Project With Rs 4.44L/MW

Maharashtra-based energy solutions firm Prostram has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) for a 30 MW/120 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the company said in a regulatory filing.

The project, to be developed under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, will operate on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model for a period of 12 years and is backed by Viability Gap Funding (VGF). It is expected to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA).

Prostram, which secured IPO approval earlier this year in February, will receive a rental of ₹4.44 lakh per MW per month—amounting to an annual rental of ₹15.98 crore for the 30 MW/120 MWh capacity. The storage units will be located across multiple grid sub-station sites operated by Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL).

Higher Tariff Than Previous BESS Awards

BSPGCL’s awarded tariff is higher than those seen in recent battery storage tenders. Earlier this year, JSW Energy was awarded a 125 MW/500 MWh BESS project by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at ₹4.41 lakh/MW/month. Similarly, NHPC’s battery storage tender, awarded to NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), came in at a lower rate.

In comparison, NGEL also secured an 80 MW/320 MWh project, while Gujarat’s Opera Energy won a 15 MW/50 MWh BESS project in Kerala at ₹4.38 lakh/MW/month.

Notably, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) awarded its 350 MW BESS tender to three firms: Sarla Project Works, Oriana Power, and Pace Digitek. Sarla won 50 MWh at the lowest tariff of ₹2.49 lakh/MW/month, while Oriana secured 50 MWh at ₹2.54 lakh/MW/month. Pace Digitek bagged the largest share of 250 MWh at the same rate.

Prostram’s award signals increasing state-level interest in grid-scale battery storage as India accelerates its energy transition and seeks to balance growing renewable capacity with firm, dispatchable power.
