Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone of SJVN Limited’s 200 MW Solar Power Project (GUVNL Phase – XVII) at Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat’s Kachchh district.

The attendees included Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Jal Shakti Chandrakant Raghunath Patil, Union MoS Shantanu Thakur, Union MoS Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, along with several other dignitaries. Senior officials from SJVN, including its Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, also joined the event virtually.

Project Details and Impact

The 200 MW Khavda Solar Power Project is a part of ambitious Khavda Solar Park, which is being developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL). It is set to deliver clean energy to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for 25 years at a tariff of INR 2.88 per unit.

With an investment of approximately INR 866.8 crore, the project is expected to generate about 504.92 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and a cumulative 11,620 million units over its lifespan. It will also help avoid nearly 5.69 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifetime.

The solar project is scheduled for commissioning by December 31, 2026. The Khavda Solar Power project will not only strengthen Gujarat’s renewable energy portfolio but will also utilise the vast arid tracts of Kachchh for sustainable power generation.

Role in India’s Clean Energy Push

SJVN, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, has already commissioned 14 projects with a total installed capacity of 2,968 MW and transmission infrastructure of 123 km. The company is actively expanding its footprint across India and Nepal with projects at various stages of development.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi underlined the strategic importance of harnessing solar energy in Gujarat’s Kachchh region, highlighting its role in strengthening India’s clean energy transition and reinforcing the vision of a green, self-reliant energy future.
