PM Modi Launches Four RE Projects By Torrent Power At UP Summit

Torrent Receives LoA From MSEDCL For 306MW Proj Under PM KUSUM

At the recently held UP investors summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for four projects with an investment of approx. ₹ 25,000 crores being developed by Gujarat based Torrent Power in Uttar Pradesh.

The Torrent Group’s four projects were launched during GroundBreaking Ceremony (GBC) 4.0, held at Lucknow when the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for over 14,000 projects across different sectors. The projects were initiated in the presence of Governor of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister (CM) of UP, Yogi Adityanath, Minister of Defence, Government of India, Rajnath Singh and other senior ministers and officials of the Government of UP.

The projects  planned by Torrent Power in UP include two Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) projects, having a total capacity of 4150 MWs in Sonbhadra district. A solar power plant with a capacity of 150 MW in Lalitpur district (Bundelkhkand region of UP) and a pilot green hydrogen production facility in Gorakhpur. The green hydrogen project is planned to be produced and blended with the gas distribution network being built by Torrent Gas. This claims to become one of the largest green hydrogen and natural gas blending projects in the country currently.

The four projects are expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for about 8,000 people in the State. The focus on backward districts in the state continues the recent push to ensure the benefits of jobs and other infrastructure linked to renewable energy reaches a wider swathe of people across the country. Projects going beyond MoU state to actual ground breaking is also a sign that investors are a lot more serious about their commitments this time, as usually the conversion from MoUs to actual investment is in the single digits.
