The Department of Energy (DOE) of the Philippines has announced the conclusion of the Fourth Round of the Green Energy Auction Program (GEA-4), awarding over 10 GW of renewable capacity.
This year’s auction drew strong interest from developers nationwide, reflecting rising investor confidence in the Philippine renewable sector, DoE said.
123 Developers Win Bids - Solar, Wind, and Storage
The DOE awarded contracts to 123 winning bidders, featuring a diverse mix of technologies. Ground mounted solar accounted for 4,179 MW, with significant projects in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
Floating solar accounted for 2,284 MW, including flagship developments in Laguna, Pampanga, and Negros. Roof-mounted solar, on the other hand, has been awarded roughly 25 MW for decentralised and urban clean energy.
For the onshore wind, 2,518 MW capacity was awarded, with major new capacity slated for Quezon, Sorsogon, and Visayas provinces.
To boost grid stability, 1,189 MW of integrated renewable energy plus energy storage systems (IRESS) have been dedicated.
The total capacity awarded stands at 10,195.49 MW, about 96 percent of the target set for staged delivery from 2026 through 2029.
National Impact and Sectoral Significance
GEA-4 is in line with the Philippines' clean energy targets - 35 percent renewables by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040. By integrating new solar, wind, and energy storage capacity, the auction marks a shift from pilot-scale projects to mainstream, large-scale renewable deployment.
Recently, Best Power Equipments Private Limited (BPE), an Indian power solutions provider, has entered into a partnership with Powerlines Digital Concepts Corporation (PDCC), an electrical and engineering solutions firm in the Philippines. The partnership focuses on advancing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with an initial product order valued at USD 200,000.
