Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has made a conscious effort to scale electric vehicle adoption in the recent past. For instance,  last year, the Himachal Pradesh government approved involving private players to expand the EV charging station network along the state’s six green corridors. It was highlighted that 77 EV charging stations are already operational on these corridors.

In its latest budget, in pursuit of boosting sustainable transport, the Himachal Pradesh government in its budget extended support to build electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. It plans to make them operational at 80 petrol pumps and set up additional charging stations at 41 locations along the Green Corridor under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. An additional 500 e-buses will be procured.

The minister emphasized that greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector account for approximately 16–20% of the state’s total emissions. To address this, the government is promoting e-buses in HRTC’s fleet, establishing charging stations on identified national highways, and introducing subsidies for e-taxis. The use of e-vehicles in government departments has already begun.
