Olectra Commissions Phase I of Hyderabad EV Plant with 2,500 Buses Annual Capacity

Olectra has recently operationalised its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Manufacturing Facility at Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana. The company announced plans to set up the facility with an annual per-shift production capacity of 2,500 buses. Olectra recently won a quota of 1785 buses in the Prime Minister Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, that has invioted bids to supply 10,900 E-buses across India.  

As declared in a regulatory filing, the company has December 31, 2025, as the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its greenfield Electric Vehicle (EV) Manufacturing Facility situated at Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana, with an annual per-shift production capacity of 2,500 buses.

Olectra explained that this declaration was communicated to the State Bank of India (SBI), the lender agency, and that this Phase-I capacity, representing 50% of the planned per-shift annual capacity of 5,000 buses per annum.

Olectra Expedites EV Manufacturing After TGIIC Rap

Olectra, which was incorporated in 2000, is among the leading electric bus manufacturers in India and completed the homologation of its first electric bus in 2017. 

The latest announcement by Olectra closely follows the penalty imposed on the company due to the delay in the full completion of the ongoing construction of the greenfield EV Manufacturing Facility. Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (TGIIC) rapped Olectra and imposed a penalty of ₹2,57,87,484 (including GST) for the period from November 12, 2023, to November 11, 2025.

The penalty was imposed due to the delay in the full completion of the ongoing construction of the greenfield EV Manufacturing Facility at the Industrial Park, Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana. The facility, as the company said, is located at the Industrial Park, Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana. TGIIC has directed the company to remit the penalty amount within seven days of receipt of the order.
