Indian Electric Vehicle (EV) company Ola Electric on Thursday launched Ola Shakti, its first residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), marking the company’s entry into India’s ₹1 trillion ($12 billion) energy storage market.

Powered by Ola’s in-house 4680 Bharat Cell technology, the system is fully designed and manufactured in India. Available in four configurations — 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh — Ola Shakti is priced at an introductory ₹29,999 to ₹1,59,999 for the first 10,000 units. Deliveries will begin on Makar Sankranti 2026, with bookings open at ₹999, the firm said.

Gigafactory Output 

The company expects its annual Gigafactory output for the BESS market to reach 5 GWh in the next few years, surpassing its automotive battery consumption. India’s BESS market, valued at ₹1 trillion, is projected to triple to over ₹3 trillion by 2030.

“Ola Shakti extends our battery innovation beyond mobility to homes and businesses,” Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal said. “India doesn’t face an energy shortage; it faces an energy storage opportunity. With this launch, we are turning that opportunity into energy independence.”

System Features

The system features a modular, stackable design and 98% efficiency, with zero-maintenance operation, instant changeover, and IP67-certified protection against dust and water. Users can monitor performance, schedule charging, and receive over-the-air software updates via an integrated digital interface.

Ola said the Ola Shakti line will initially target residential, small business, and agricultural users before expanding to larger grid-scale storage applications, leveraging the company’s existing Gigafactory infrastructure and nationwide distribution network.
