Nxtra by Airtel has signed a new agreement with AMPIN Energy Transition for the supply of 205,167 MWh of green energy annually from solar-wind hybrid projects connected through India’s Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), the company announced on Monday.

Decarbonising Nxtra's Operations 

The additional supply is expected to reduce Nxtra’s annual carbon emissions by approximately 149,156 tCO₂e, enhancing its ability to deliver low-carbon digital infrastructure and furthering its Net Zero commitment, which is aligned with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

“This partnership reinforces our leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy to sustainably power our data centres,” said Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel. “With over 200 MW of renewable energy in our portfolio, we are setting new benchmarks in sustainable digital operations.”

AMPIN's Existing Partnership

AMPIN is already supplying solar energy to Nxtra under intra-state open access arrangements in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha. The new agreement expands the scope to 11 more states and introduces ISTS-linked renewable energy solutions from a single independent power producer.

Nxtra, which joined the global RE100 initiative in June 2024, has pledged to source 100% of its electricity from renewables, becoming the first Indian data centre to join the alliance. The company is actively investing in renewable power, energy efficiency, and emissions-reduction technologies across its nationwide infrastructure.
