FY 2024-25: Nxtra by Airtel Contracted 482,800 MWh Green Power
Nxtra Data Ltd, the data centre subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has reported a significant increase in renewable energy adoption during FY25. In its latest sustainability report, the company said it contracted 482,800 MWh of green power, marking a 14.5% rise in renewable energy usage over the previous fiscal.
The company disclosed that 49% of electricity consumed across its core data centres came from renewable sources in FY25.
Largest Data Center Network
Nxtra, which operates one of India’s largest data centre networks, underscored its broader sustainability agenda, built on three pillars — minimising environmental impact through cleaner energy and smarter operations, advancing social inclusion and safety, and reinforcing governance through transparency and accountability. Its talent programme, NxtWave, focuses on improving female representation in engineering roles.
Ashish Arora, CEO, Nxtra by Airtel, said, “At Nxtra, sustainability is a core business imperative embedded into every design, build, and operation decision. This year, we have set new benchmarks by becoming the first data centre in the country — and only the 14th company in India — to join the global RE100 initiative, committing to 100% renewable energy across operations. We are also the first in India to harness AI at scale to drive energy efficiency and optimise operational performance.”
Airtel's Future Plans
Looking ahead, Airtel said it will accelerate renewable energy adoption across operations. “We remain steadfast in our pursuit of a sustainable digital future, driven by innovation, bold investments, and a strong commitment to climate responsibility. By scaling green energy in data centres, we aim to play a catalytic role in advancing India’s net-zero journey and building a resilient digital economy,” the report added.
