Jharkhand: NTPC REL Issues Bids For Floating Solar Project With BESS NTPC REL Floats Tender for BOS Package of 1200 MW Wind Projects

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) has invited bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a 56 MW floating solar power project with a 60 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its North Karanpura site in Jharkhand.

The deadline for bid submissions is June 24, 2025, the company said.

Scope of Work

The selected contractor will be responsible for the turnkey development of the grid-connected project, including transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning. The scope also includes acquiring site-specific data to prepare installation and implementation plans.

According to the tender, the contractor must supply all equipment, components, and services required for a fully functional floating solar PV plant with BESS. The system will be integrated into NTPC’s existing 220 kV switchyard.

Bidders may opt for either AC- or DC-coupled BESS configurations. The battery containers must follow a standardized design, with each container offering a minimum DC capacity of 5 MWh.

Annual Performance Guarantee

The BESS is required to have a design life of 15 years with single-cycle daily operation. Bidders must guarantee annual performance parameters such as discharge capacity and round-trip efficiency. Comprehensive operations and maintenance of the BESS for 15 years is also part of the contract.

The contractor will be responsible for grid compliance studies, reactive power compensation, and ensuring power quality up to the 400 kV/220 kV grid interconnection point, the tender said.

The project will include floating PV systems, battery containers, battery management system (BMS), energy management system (EMS), SCADA, power conversion systems (PCS), protection and communication systems, transformers, auxiliary power supply, firefighting infrastructure, and remote monitoring capabilities.

NTPC REL is a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, India’s largest energy conglomerate, focused on renewable energy development across the country.
