NTPC Invites EoI For 50MW Concentrated Solar Project In Uttar Pradesh NTPC Invites EoI For 50MW Concentrated Solar Project At Uttar Pradesh

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) recently released a tender inviting an expression of interest (EoI) for setting up Inter-State transmission System (ISTS) connected 50MW concentrated solar power (CSP) project with Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) in Uttar Pradesh (UP). The tender is probably the first large tender for CSP from any PSU in India.

NTPC invited bids from Indian/ foreign companies/ their consortium/ affiliates/ representatives for setting up ISTS connected 50MW concentrated solar power (CSP) project. They invited expression of interest (EOI) for setting up a pilot project for solar thermal crematorium.

The project has a thermal energy storage system (TESS) of 8 hours operation during peak hours and non-solar hours on Build Own Operate (BOO) basis.

TESS can be discharged to cater power requirements either during two power blocks at full capacity (50MW) or at partial load distributed in entire period of non-solar hours. The applicant can supply 50MW renewable energy power, keeping the annual availability of minimum 70% during 8 hours of peak demand and non-solar hours of contracted capacity in MW. The applicant can use the concentrated solar power (CSP) for charging of the thermal energy storage system (TESS).

The last date for queries/ seeking clarifications is 24th April.

The last date for submission of Expression of Interest (EoI) till 9th May 2024 and date for opening of EoI response is 14th May 2024.The response validity is six months from the last date for EOI Submission

The tender explained, “Concentrated solar power (CSP) is an advanced technology which uses solar irradiation (DNI) to drive utility-scale steam turbines, and heating and cooling systems. Globally, CSP is a proven technology and its integration with Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) offers various range of benefits that can complement other Energy storage options.”

It recognized the benefits of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) with Thermal energy storage system (TESS) can be innovative solution to supply firm and dispatchable renewable energy (RE) power including peak demand/ non-Solar hours.
