NTPC Invites Bids for 2.67 GWh BESS Projects at Seven Thermal Stations

The BESS projects are planned across seven thermal power stations, with a last date of December 5, 2025. It comes at a time when NTPC needs to add more flexibility to its operations to align with higher renewable energy in the grid.

NTPC Invites Bids for 2.23 GWh BESS Projects at Seven Thermal Stations

NTPC has invited bids to develop 2.670 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across seven thermal stations to enhance grid flexibility and support renewable energy integration. The company has sought bids for the project until December 5, 2025.

These projects will be located across seven thermal power stations, including Barauni Thermal Power Station (1,000 MWh), Gadarwara Super Thermal Power Station (320 MWh), NTECL-Vallur Thermal Power Station (300 MWh), and Khargone Super Thermal Power Station (250 MWh).

NTPC also plans to set up a battery energy storage project for National Capital Power Station Dadri-II (200 MWh), Tanda Super Thermal Power Station-II (200 MWh), and Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station (150 MWh), Solapur Super Thermal Power Station (Solapur) of 150 MW, and Feroze Gandhi Unchahar Thermal Power Station 100 MW.

Scope of Work

Under the scope of work, NTPC mandated the bidder to develop an interconnection with an existing thermal power station for 11 years from the completion of the Performance Guarantee (PG) test.

The BESS project would comprise a Battery System, Battery Management System (BMS), Energy Management System (EMS) and SCADA, and Power Conversion System (PCS).  The bidder would also provide all other associated materials and accessories necessary for trouble-free operation and maintenance of the BESS system. 

Experience

As per the NTPC tender conditions, any bidder from a country that shares a land border with India, as specified in the bidding documents, will be eligible to participate only if registered with the Competent Authority.

Furthermore, any bidder (including an Indian bidder) having a Transfer of Technology (ToT) arrangement with an entity from such a country will also be eligible only if registered with the same Competent Authority.
