NTPC Green Issues EPC Tender to Build 6 MW Floating Solar-Plus-BESS Project in Chhattisgarh

NGEL issued this tender for the project on behalf of a Joint Venture (JV) between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL). It has sought bids for this project till January 12, 2026.

Floating Solar with BESS

NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a renewable energy arm of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), has issued an EPC tender to develop a floating solar project with a 6 MW/24 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.

NGEL issued the tender for the project on behalf of a joint venture (JV) between NGEL and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL).  The tender aims to develop the BESS project at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Station (ABVTPS) of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL). The company has sought bids for the project until January 12, 2026.

Scope of Work

Under the scope of work, NGEL expects the winning bidders to undertake the EPC work, which includes undertaking design, engineering, supply, packing and forwarding, transportation, unloading, storage, installation, and commissioning of the grid-connected project.

Further, the bidder is required to obtain site-specific data from the owner in preparation for developing installation and implementation plans. The power evacuation system and equipment, including integration with the existing 11 kV station bus, are considered within the bidder’s scope, along with any required modifications, materials, and services in the switchgear.

Chhattisgarh's Previous Floating Solar Plant 

In 2025, NTPC-SAIL Power Supply Company Limited (NSPCL), a joint venture between the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), set up a 15-megawatt floating solar power plant in Chhattisgarh. The plant was set up at the Maroda-1 reservoir of the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) and is one of the first floating solar projects in the state. 

The project is spread across over 80 acres and was built at a cost of ₹111.35 crore. The project also includes plans to replicate the initiative at the Maroda-2 reservoir to supply green energy to BSP.
