NTPC Green Commissions 75 MW Solar Project

NTPC Green Energy Ltd has commissioned a 75 MW renewable energy capacity under Lot-4 of the IRCON Renewable Power Ltd (IRPL) project, raising the project’s cumulative operational capacity to 225 MW out of a planned 500 MW, the company said in a regulatory filing.

IRPL is a joint venture between Ayana Renewable Power Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green Energy Pvt Ltd.

NTPC said its power generation rose by 3.88 percent in the financial year 2024-25, reaching 438.6 billion units (BU), compared with 422.2 BU in the previous fiscal year.

During the year, the NTPC Group added 3,972 MW in new capacity, bringing its total installed capacity to approximately 80 GW by the end of FY25. The company said 32 GW of additional capacity — including 15 GW from renewable sources — is under construction, reaffirming its target of reaching 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

Previous commissions

Earlier this year, NTPC commissioned the 245 MW Nokh Solar Project in Rajasthan. With this, NTPC’s installed and commercial capacity reached 59,413 MW (standalone) and 77,806.50 MW (group basis), the company said.

This followed the operationalisation of the final 100 MW phase of the 320 MW Bhainsara Solar PV Project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, developed with the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd. The first two phases of 160 MW and 60 MW were commissioned in August 2024 and January 2025, respectively.

In addition, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Ltd, commissioned the second phase (90 MW) of the 150 MW Dayapar Wind Energy Project in Bhuj, Gujarat, on April 9. The first 50 MW phase became operational on November 4, 2023.

Following the latest commissioning, NTPC Group’s total installed and commercial capacity stands at 80,020 MW.
