This is part of SECI's larger tender for a total of 7.24 lakh MT/Year of Green Ammonia, spread across 13 locations in India. The e-reverse auction was scheduled for the supply of 70,000 MT/Year of Green Ammonia to Krishana Phoschem Limited, located in Meghnagar, Madhya Pradesh.

Other Winners of The Project

SECI awarded the tender at a lower rate to NTPC REL for the Madhya Pradesh project in Krishana Phoschem than to ACME Cleantech Solutions. ACME won the project under a separate tranche of the 724,000-tonne at Rs 55.75 per kg to supply the green ammonia to Paradeep Phosphates Limited.

The project was awarded for Project-V at Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL), with procurement to take place in Paradeep, Odisha. Notably, SECI has more tenders of this nature in the pipeline.

Why Green Ammonia Is More Viable Than Green Hydrogen?

Green ammonia is generally cheaper than green hydrogen due to its easier storage and transport. While both are produced using renewable energy through electrolysis, ammonia (NH₃) is more energy-dense and can be stored and transported as a liquid at moderate pressures and temperatures, unlike hydrogen, which requires high-pressure tanks or cryogenic temperatures.

Additionally, existing infrastructure for ammonia - used globally as fertilizer - can be leveraged for distribution, reducing overall costs. These advantages make green ammonia a more commercially viable option, especially for long-distance transport and export markets.
