National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited declared the commercial operation date (COD) of 165 MW of solar capacity at the Khavda-II Solar PV Project in the western Indian state of Gujarat. In a regulatory filing, NTPC said the declaration relates to the second tranche of the 1,200 MW Khavda-II project. With this, the total installed and commercial capacity of the NTPC group will become 87,974 MW and 86,894 MW, respectively.
The project is being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a step-down subsidiary of NTPC Limited, through NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL). The newly commissioned capacity became commercially operational with effect from February 20, 2026, the company said.
The latest project adds to NTPC’s total commissioned capacity, which stood at 1,744 MW at the group level in Q3 FY26, comprising 800 MW from the Patratu thermal power station, 694 MW from renewable energy projects, and 250 MW from the THDC pumped storage project.
Adding To Renewable Energy Projects At Khavda
NTPC management told in an investos about adding 468 MW of renewable capacity during January 2026, which took NTPC's total capacity additions in FY26 to 6,615 MW. This is one of the highest achievements in 10 months.
Turning to NTPC Green Energy Limited, the company highlighted that during FY26, NGEL added 2,108 MW of renewable capacity, taking its total commercial capacity to 8,010 MW as of December 31, 2025, up from 5,902 MW as of March 31, 2025. On a year-on-year basis, commercial capacity increased by 4,535 MW, including 2,624 MW from the acquisition of Ayana Renewable Power Private Limited.
NTPC said it is pursuing growth through a balanced expansion across conventional and clean energy segments, while maintaining a strong focus on fuel security, on-time execution and prudent capital allocation.
The company has over 33 GW of capacity under construction, comprising 16.5 GW of coal-based capacity, about 1.9 GW of hydro capacity and around 15 GW of renewable energy, providing a solid foundation for near- to medium-term growth.
