NTPC Adds 360 MW of Solar Capacity in Gujarat, Rajasthan Photograph: (Archive)
NTPC said it has declared commercial operation of 359.58 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity across projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan, lifting the group’s total commercial capacity to more than 85.5 gigawatts (GW).
The state-owned power producer said it has achieved commercial operation of 243.66 MW from its 1,255 MW Khavda-I solar photovoltaic project in Gujarat, developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a step-down subsidiary through NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL).
Commercial Operation Of 78 MW
NTPC also declared commercial operation of 78 MW from the 245 MW Nokh Sokar solar project in Rajasthan, part of a 3×245 MW development, the company said.
In addition, the company commissioned 37.93 MW from a 300 MW solar component of the 450 MW Hybrid Tranche-V project at Khavda in Gujarat, also being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd.
Following these additions, NTPC Group’s total installed and commercial capacity has reached 85,541 MW.
A Lion's Share
NTPC supplies nearly a quarter of India’s electricity demand and currently has over 85 GW of installed capacity, with another 30.9 GW under construction, including 13.3 GW of renewable energy projects. The company has set a target of building 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 as part of India’s net-zero transition.
NTPC operates a diversified generation portfolio spanning thermal, hydro, solar and wind power. It has also expanded into newer segments including electric mobility, battery energy storage systems, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power and green hydrogen, the company said.
