Nokh Solar Project: NTPC’s 193 MW Project Goes Live By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Mon, Jun 9th, 2025 NTPC has commissioned 193 MW of the 245 MW solar capacity at Plot-3 of its Nokh Solar Project (3×245 MW) in Rajasthan. The company furnished details of the commissioning of its latest regulatory filing before the exchanges. With this, the total installed and commercial capacity of NTPC now stands at 59,606 MW on a standalone basis and 80,708 MW on a group basis, it added. NTPC has been ramping up solar capacity in Rajasthan in recent months. Earlier this year, the company commissioned its 245 MW Nokh Solar Project in the state. It also operationalized the third and final 100 MW unit of the 320 MW Bhainsara Solar PV Project, developed in collaboration with the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited, in Jaisalmer. The first and second phases of the project—160 MW and 60 MW, respectively—were declared commercially operational on August 28, 2024, and January 7, 2025. Companies Ramping Up Solar Projects In Rajasthan Several companies are accelerating solar development in Rajasthan. NHPC recently began commercial operations of 107.14 MW from its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, effective April 12, 2025, the company said in a regulatory filing. Additionally, ReNew has also inaugurated a 1.3 GWp solar project in Jaisalmer. The project was unveiled by the Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. To further streamline renewable power procurement the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) through intra-state transmission under the Electricity Act, of 2003, issued draft regulations for Green Energy Open Access (GEOA). The move is part of a broader effort to integrate clean energy and encourage industrial consumers to shift toward sustainable power. The framework will govern open access to electricity from renewable sources—both captive and third-party—across Rajasthan. Eligibility for GEOA requires a contracted demand or sanctioned load of at least 100 kW, though captive users are exempt from this minimum. Access is classified by tenure: long-term (12–25 years), medium-term (3 months to 3 years), and short-term (up to one month). Access approval depends on system capacity and planning margins.
