State-owned NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has announced a partnership with the Government of Gujarat to develop large-scale renewable energy projects. This collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), involves an estimated investment of ₹25,000 crore, representing one of the most significant green energy initiatives in the state this year.
The agreement was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Saurashtra and Kutch Region in Rajkot.
Scope of the Agreement
The partnership focuses on diversifying Gujarat's energy mix by building extensive capacity across multiple green technologies. The project pipeline includes: Solar and wind power, hybrid Systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The projects will be spearheaded by NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly-owned subsidiary dedicated to the company’s clean energy portfolio. The MoU was executed by Devendra Pratap Singh, CEO of NIRL, and Bhakthi Shamal, Joint Secretary of the Energy & Petrochemicals Department for Gujarat.
The ceremony saw participation from high-ranking officials, including Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, alongside several Gujarat state ministers.
To ensure the timely execution of these projects, the Government of Gujarat has committed to providing a streamlined regulatory environment. This includes facilitating the project with necessary administrative approvals, technical clearances, and policy-driven regulatory support.
NLC India’s Path to 2030
This agreement is a cornerstone of NLCIL’s "Navratna" vision to transition from a coal-centric enterprise to a diversified energy leader. The company aims to achieve 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
While NLC India is aggressively expanding its green footprint, its recent financial performance reflects the challenges of a transitioning energy sector.
For the quarter ending September 2025, the company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹665 crore, a 27.1% decrease from the ₹912 crore recorded in the same period the previous year.
