Newly Launched Tata Harrier EV Gets 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating

Tata Motors, India’s leading electric four-wheeler manufacturer, has officially launched its much-anticipated Harrier EV, marking a significant milestone in the country’s electric mobility transition. The electric SUV has debuted with a full 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP crash tests, making it one of the safest electric vehicles in the Indian market today.

Top-Tier Safety Across the Board

The Harrier EV impressed in its crash test performance, securing 32 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP). These scores place it in the top tier of tested vehicles, matching the safety levels of rivals like the Mahindra XUV.e9.

The vehicle comes equipped with six airbags (seven on the Fearless and Empowered variants), three-point seatbelts for all passengers, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX anchors, and an ADAS safety suite on the top-spec Empowered trim. It also meets the AIS-100 pedestrian protection standards.

Crash test dummies recorded ‘good’ protection for all body regions—a rare achievement in NCAP tests. The Harrier EV also performed commendably in side pole impact testing, securing an ‘OK’ rating.

Launch

Tata has launched the rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants of the Harrier EV, with introductory ex-showroom prices starting at INR 21.49 lakh for the Adventure 65, going up to INR 27.49 lakh for the Empowered 75. The all-wheel drive (AWD/QWD) variants will be priced and unveiled on June 27, with bookings opening from July 2.

Powertrain and Range

The Harrier EV is available with two battery pack options – 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The 75 kWh variant is claimed to offer a range of 627 km on a single charge, though variant-wise range details will be announced soon.

The Tata Harrier EV comes equipped with a dual-motor setup that delivers a combined torque output of 504 Nm, making it one of the most powerful electric SUVs in its segment.

Tata Motors claims that Harrier EV can add 250 km of driving range in just 15 minutes, thanks to its 120 kW DC fast-charging support. The vehicle can achieve 20 to 80 percent charge in only 25 minutes, ensuring quick turnaround times for long-distance travel.

Moreover, the SUV supports advanced technologies like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), enhancing its utility by allowing the battery to power external devices or support grid functions.

Battery warranty coverage is equally robust. The first registered owner enjoys an unlimited kilometre warranty, while subsequent owners are covered for 10 years or 2,00,000 km, whichever comes first from the date of initial registration.
